 OVER 1m PARENTS SHUN CHILD TRUST FUND  

                                        

 Less than half of parents with child   

 trust fund vouchers have opened an     

 account since the scheme launched in   

 April, says HM Revenue & Customs.      

                                        

 Only 889,000 accounts have been opened 

 of the 1.927m vouchers sent to parents 

 with children born after September 1,  

 2002, the taxman's figures show.       

                                        

 But the gap is closing with 390,000 new

 accounts opened between May and August,

 on 499,000 in the prior two months.
