 Strokes - First Impressions...         

 The opening three tracks on First      

 Impressions of Earth show The Strokes  

 at their best.                         

                                        

 You only Live Once is a brash and      

 winning opener, sounding as vibrant as 

 a Blondie classic.                     

                                        

 Nick Valensi provides thrilling guitar 

 work, but it's Julian Casablancas'     

 singing and songwriting that lets the  

 side down, with space to disappoint.   

                                        

 If they are to repay that initial      

 thrill, their fourth album will have to

 offer more consistency and invention.
