 Man City launch £4.8m Samaras bid      

 Manchester City are close to signing   

 Heerenveen's Greek striker Georgios    

 Samaras, according to the Dutch club.  

                                        

 Arsenal have also shown interest in the

 20-year-old, who is under contract with

 Heerenveen until 2008, but City are    

 said to have tabled a £4.8m deal.      

                                        

 Heerenveen chairman Riemer van der     

 Velde said: "There is indeed a chance  

 Samaras will go to Manchester City.    

                                        

 "Their interest in him is concrete. I  

 understand Georgios can sign a contract

 until 2010 there."
