 Venus slumps to shock early exit   1/4 

 Venus Williams suffered a stunning     

 defeat against 18-year-old Tszvetana   

 Pironkova of Bulgaria on the opening   

 day of the Australian Open.            

                                        

 The American, seeded 10th, looked set  

 for a comfortable win when she took the

 opening set with plenty to spare.      

                                        

 But world number 94 Pironkova, playing 

 her first Grand Slam match, came       

 storming back to level.                

                                        

 And after a succession of service      

 breaks in the decider it was the       

 teenager who came through 2-6 6-0 9-7.
