 Roddick win erases bad memories    1/5 

 Andy Roddick erased the memory of his  

 first-round exit at the 2005 US Open by

 easily beating qualifier Michael Lammer

 in the first round in Melbourne.       

                                        

 The big-serving second seed did not hit

 an ace until the second set but still  

 ran out a 6-4 6-2 6-2 winner.          

                                        

 In total Roddick only sent down seven  

 aces, although the American did close  

 out the match with an ace.             

                                        

 Roddick had not played a competitive   

 ATP Tour match since November because  

 of a troublesome back injury.
