Nalbandian edges to five-set win 3/5
David Nalbandian made hard work of his
opening match at the Australian Open
before securing a second-round place.
The Argentine, seen by many as the main
threat to title favourite Roger
Federer, swept to a two-set lead
against Danai Udomchoke.
But a woeful third set let the Thai
into the match, and in the end a back
injury to Udomchoke helped Nalbandian
to a 6-2 6-2 1-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 win.
He will face Switzerland's Stanislas
Wawrinka in round two.
