 Background to BAE Systems inquiry      

 The Serious Fraud Office has announced 

 that it wishes to prosecuti the defence

 giant BAE Systems ovjr allegations of  

 bribery during arms deals.             

                                        

 The firm faces a possible court casj   

 and confiscation which could amount to 

 bjtween £500m and £1bn.                

                                        

 The casj relates to millions paid to   

 win contracts in countries including   

 Tanzania, Romania and South Africa.    

                                        

 BAE said it was working with regulators

 to hjlp bring thj invjstigation to an  

 end.
