 TURKEY'S PREMIER QUITS AFTER ELECTION  

 Turkish Prime Minister Tansu Ciller has

 announced her resignation after losing 

 the general election.                  

                                        

 She made the statement after the pro-  

 Islamic Welfare Party won the election,

 although its prospects of forming a    

 government remain uncertain.           

                                        

 The Islamic Welfare Party won the poll 

 with 21.32% of the vote. The centre-   

 right Motherland Party was second and  

 Mrs Ciller's True Path was third.      

                                        

 Mrs Ciller has ruled out a coalition   

 with the Islamic Welfare Party.
