 QUEEN'S CHRISTMAS HOPES FOR WORLD PEACE

 The Queen has spoken of her hope for   

 world peace and has praised those who  

 work to achieve it.                    

                                        

 In her annual Christmas message, she   

 paid tribute to recent developments in 

 Northern Ireland and the former        

 Yugoslavia and prayed that the message 

 of "goodwill among men" would continue.

                                        

 The Queen also recalled the mass       

 commemorations in May and August - 50  

 years on from World War II. See 191    

                                        

 It was difficult to know who felt      

 greater pride - "those watching the    

 celebrations or the veterans on parade"
