 BLIZZARD MISERY FOR THOUSANDS OF SCOTS 

 Blizzards and gales have brought power 

 cuts and misery to large areas of      

 Scotland, leaving thousands of families

 unable to cook their Christmas dinners.

                                        

 More than 20,000 homes in the Highlands

 and Islands have been cut off, and     

 engineers have warned that some homes  

 will not be re-connected until tomorrow

                                        

 Many roads have been blocked by the    

 snow, and more heavy snow showers have 

 been forecast for tomorrow. See 400/500

                                        

 Meanwhile, Northern Ireland has had its

 first white Christmas for years, with  

 police warning drivers to take care.
