 PILE-UP ON M4 BLAMED ON ICY CONDITIONS 

 Ice is being blamed for an accident    

 earlier today on the M4 near Bristol in

 which five people were injured.        

                                        

 The most seriously hurt was a fireman  

 who was hit by a vehicle as he tried   

 to help those trapped.                 

                                        

 He suffered extensive fractures. The   

 others who were hurt in the crash were 

 treated for minor whiplash injuries.   

                                        

 The pile-up happened when a motorist   

 skidded onto the hard-shoulder, struck 

 a police car and bounced into the path 

 of other traffic.
