 Sign has won the 1995 Sir Roy Griffiths

 Award for Achievement and Good Practice

 in Housing and Community Care.         

                                        

 The award was given for Sign's housing 

 scheme in Manchester for deaf people   

 with mental health problems and was    

 presented by Stephen Dorrell, Secretary

 of State for Health.                   

                                        

 The Sign scheme provides accommodation 

 for deaf people who would otherwise    

 be in long-term institutions.          

                                        

 Staff at the scheme have begun to teach

 Sign Language to many members of the   

 local community, heightening awareness 

 of deafness.
