 WORLD DIAMOND SALES SPARKLE            

                                        

 Sales of rough diamonds in 1993 were   

 28% higher than 1992, according to the 

 De Beers Central Selling Organisation. 

                                        

 Total sales amounted to $4.37bn        

 (£2,95bn) compared with $3,42bn        

 (£2,31bn) in 1992.                     

                                        

 De Beers said that the USA and East    

 Asia continued to be the principal     

 areas of growth, while the European    

 market remained weak.
