 SOCIETIES SEE SAVINGS DRAIN            

                                        

 Building societies suffered their      

 biggest drain on savings last month for

 more than seven years, new figures show

                                        

 The net outflow of investors' money was

 £400m, the largest monthly decline     

 since September 1986 when receipts were

 distorted by the TSB flotation.        

                                        

 Building Societies Association director

 general Adrian Coles admitted the size 

 of the outflow was "surprising".
