 BTR SWITCHES TO BATTERY POWER          

                                        

 Industrial group BTR has bought the US 

 industrial batteries business of Gates 

 Energy Products for £14.4m, it said.   

                                        

 BTR's subsidiary Hawker Batteries,     

 is making the latest acquisition. The  

 US plant at Warrensburg, Missouri, will

 carry the Hawker name.                 

                                        

 John Richardson, head of BTR's         

 batteries group, said the deal will    

 give them a long-term competitive edge.
