 ALL-TIME GREAT SMIRKE DIES, AGED 87    

                                        

 Charlie Smirke, one of the greatest    

 jockeys of all-time has died at the age

 of 87 at a Leatherhead rsidential home.

                                        

 In a career spanning 38 years, he won  

 11 Classics includingfour Derbys.      

                                        

 However, in a golden era for jockeys he

 was never able to wrest the title from 

 his greatest rivals, Harry Wragg and   

 Gordon Richards.
