NUCLEAR FIRM FACING SAFETY BREACH FINE
A judge has warned Nuclear Electric to
expect a "stinging" fine for breaking
safety regulations at a power station.
The firm is due to be sentenced at Mold
Crown Court, North Wales, tomorrow
after admitting four breaches of safety
rules at Wylfa, Anglesey, in 1993.
It took nine hours to shut down a
nuclear reactor after an accident as
plant officials put their "brains in
neutral", the court heard.
But Nuclear Electric fiercely denied
prosecution claims that only luck
prevented the plant from melting down.
