SCOTTISH DRUG DEATHS PROMPT NEW INQUIRY
The Government has ordered a fresh
inquiry into the mounting death toll
among drug-users in Scotland.
It is thought 78 people have died from
drug abuse in Strathclyde this year.
The death toll for the whole of last
year was 98.
Scottish Office minister Lord James
Douglas Hamilton said a committee
already investigating drug misuse has
been asked to look again at the action
being taken to combat drugs deaths.
But he blocked calls by Glasgow Central
MP Mike Watson for a public inquiry.
