 MINISTER BACKS FISHERMEN OVER EU SCHEME

 Fishermen have won the support of      

 Fisheries Minister Tony Baldry in their

 fight against new EU proposals.        

                                        

 Trawlermen met Mr Baldry at Brixham in 

 Devon to discuss plans to force any    

 fishing vessel using an area called the

 Irish Box to make radio contact with   

 the Ministry of Agriculture.           

                                        

 Mr Baldry agreed the scheme would be   

 costly and bureaucratic and said he    

 would fight it at an EU Council of     

 Ministers' meeting next month.         

                                        

 But he warned that the UK would not    

 pull out of the Common Fisheries Policy
