SRI LANKA PLANE CRASH BLAMED ON WEATHER
Officials in Sri Lanka say bad weather
is the most likely reason why a
military plane crashed into the sea,
with 75 soldiers feared dead.
An inquiry was keeping an open mind but
theories that a missile attack brought
down the Antonov-32 were unlikely, said
Air Commodore Jayalath Weerakkody.
The plane had left the capital Colombo
for the Palali military base in the
north, where government troops are in
conflict with Tamil Tiger separatists.
An instrument problem was reported
before the plane went off radar.
