UN GUARDS HELD HOSTAGE IN NORTHERN IRAQ
UN officials have confirmed that
Turkish-Kurd refugees are holding three
UN staff members captive in a refugee
camp in northern Iraq.
The officials were captured after
fierce fighting near the town of Atrush
between forces belonging to the Turkish
PKK group and to one of the two main
Iraqi Kurd parties, the KDP.
The KDP said the camps would remain
under siege until its fighters could
search them for PKK arms and men.
The PKK has been accused of using the
camps for its own propaganda purposes.
