 The TUC has backed Labour policy for a 

 minimum wage, but has decided against  

 setting a figure yet. Stephen Evans:   

                                        

 The debate started with the real tough 

 talking already done far from the      

 conference platform when union leaders 

 agreed to excise any reference to a    

 specific figure for the minimum wage.  

                                        

 In any case, Mr Blair had already said 

 Labour would not be bound by union     

 decisions.                             

                                        

 A minimum wage would be introduced, but

 in consultation between employers and  

 unions, he said.
