The CBI has called on Chancellor Clarke
to introduce a "modest package" of
measures to support investment and
employment in his November Budget.
CBI president Sir Bryan Nicholson urged
a cautious overall fiscal stance to
keep interest rates at a low level.
The CBI proposed that the Government
sticks closely to its spending targets,
improves family credit, and looks to a
simpler regime for capital gains tax.
It also called for a more generous
transitional regime for the uniform
business rate.
