Tokyo (Close): Stocks closed on a firm
note as the dollar remained above Y100.
The Nikkei average closed 142.09 points
(0.8%) ahead at 18,614.26, its highest
close since early February.
Turnover was estimated at 500m shares.
Hong Kong (Close): Stocks finished very
firm. But the market failed to remain
above the 9,600-level after some light
profit-taking set in.
The Hang Seng index was 146.55 points
higher at the close at 9,581.36 after a
high of 9,614.15 and a low of 6,482.11.
