CAMPAIGN TO SAVE LIMESTONE PAVEMENT
The Wildlife Trusts have launched a new
campaign to raise awareness about the
plight of limestone pavement caused by
demand for its use in garden rockeries.
According to the Trusts Britain has
less than 2,500 hectares of limestone
pavement remaining, most of which are
found in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and
North Lancashire.
Limestone pavement supports rare and
highly specialised plants, many of
which will only grow in this rare and
unusual moonscape-like habitat.
