 HUNTING WILL BE BANNED IN THE LEBANON  

 Lebanon's Environment Minister Pierre  

 Pharaon has promised to ban hunting in 

 1996 if he is still in office.         

                                        

 The announcement comes after pressure  

 from former actress and animal rights  

 activist Brigitte Bardot.              

                                        

 Ms Bardot had written to President     

 Elias Hrawi in protest at the          

 government's reversal on its decision  

 to ban hunting from 1 January 1996 for 

 three years.                           

                                        

 The actress called for a ban so that   

 "fauna in Lebanon already plundered can

 recover from the destruction".
