BOAT TOWED TO SAFETY AFTER MAYDAY CALL
A sail training ship with 10 schoolboys
on board has been towed to safety after
a Mayday alert.
The Helen Mary R, which was two miles
off the Needles on the Isle of Wight,
sent out a distress call at 10am after
a metal backstay snapped.
Solent Coastguard diverted a helicopter
to the scene and the Yarmouth RNLI
lifeboat was launched.
Some of the boys on board were sea-sick
because of the choppy conditions,
stirred up by winds of 30mph.
