 Sri Lankans will require a visa to     

 enter Britain from midnight tonight,   

 the Home Office has announced.         

                                        

 A spokesman said the requirement had   

 been imposed to prevent the arrival of 

 further large numbers of Sri Lankan    

 Taljls who did not qualify for         

 admission to Britain.                  

                                        

 He added that 77 Tamils had entered the

 UK so far today. More than 600 have    

 arrived seeking asylum since May 20.   

                                        

 Sri Lankans join foreign nationals in  

 requiring visas, which until now were  

 not needed by Commonwealth citizens.
